Chapter 22: Is It a Secret Marriage?
Meng Weiyu patiently sat on the sofa and waited for an hour. Soon, the doctor sent Shen Zhoudu out.
He patted Shen Zhoudu on the shoulder. His expression was even heavier than when he had sent Meng Weiyu out, but in the end, he said nothing. He only sighed and returned to the room.
Shen Zhoudu was expressionless.
Although Meng Weiyu really wanted to complain, What a monkey show, Shen Zhoudu’s expression was too serious. He could not be sharp-tongued!
“Let’s go.” On the surface, Shen Zhoudu actually looked no different from usual.
“Heh.” If Meng Weiyu had not heard him speaking earlier, maybe he really would have been deceived.
Shen Zhoudu was still immersed in the talk therapy from just now, thinking about how to get along with Meng Weiyu in the future.
Seeing him like this, Meng Weiyu once again, for the sake of Shen Zhoudu having taken care of him for a day, gave him a bit of humane gentleness and said, “Stretch out your hand.”
Shen Zhoudu doubtfully stretched out his left hand. There were still two rings on his ring finger.
Seeing this, Meng Weiyu fell silent for a long while. He had originally tried to raise his right hand, but after thinking about it, he gave up on the choice of injuring himself a second time and said, “The other one.”
Shen Zhoudu withdrew his left hand and opened his right hand to him.
Meng Weiyu grabbed his right hand with his left.
Shen Zhoudu froze.
“Alright, now that you’ve finished seeing the doctor, Daddy will take you to eat something good.” Meng Weiyu held his hand and walked away.
Shen Zhoudu froze, then looked at Meng Weiyu’s back and smiled so widely his eyes curved.
When they reached downstairs, Meng Weiyu saw an ice cream stall. Thinking that summer called for something cold, he went over and ordered two servings, first handing one to Shen Zhoudu.
Only then did Shen Zhoudu’s eyes show undisguised laughter.
Holding the ice cream, Meng Weiyu suddenly turned to look at Shen Zhoudu.
Shen Zhoudu looked at him in confusion, the smile in his eyes not yet completely faded.
“My wallet is in the car. I don’t have money right now. You pay first.” When Meng Weiyu said this, he felt that his skin was truly too thick.
“Okay.” Shen Zhoudu had no objection and stepped forward to pay.
Meng Weiyu casually leaned over, turned his head to look at Shen Zhoudu’s side profile, and asked, “Between you and me, who manages the money?”
“Our own money, we manage ourselves.” The two of them got along very casually.
“Wow.” Meng Weiyu made a meaningless sound.
“But I like buying things for you… Where did you go?” By the last two words, Shen Zhoudu’s tone had become helpless.
Seeing him dragging things out, Meng Weiyu had simply sat down on a nearby chair. His bright teeth mercilessly bit through the waffle cone of the ice cream, and he looked at Shen Zhoudu’s back with boredom.
Shen Zhoudu seemed to still want to buy something. After paying, in order to accept the item, his whole body almost had to squeeze into the food cart. Very soon, he came out holding a large balloon floating upward.
Meng Weiyu froze.
Shen Zhoudu walked over to him with the balloon and handed it to him neatly.
“You came to see the doctor properly. This is for you. It’s a reward.”
Meng Weiyu scolded him, “Lunatic.”
Then, with a reluctant face, he quickly finished the ice cream in his hand and accepted the balloon Shen Zhoudu gave him.
“This is for you too.” Shen Zhoudu reached toward his bangs. A clip separated his too-long bangs from the side.
“Don’t touch my hairstyle!” Meng Weiyu had a lot of opinions about his action.
“You won’t be able to see the road.” After Shen Zhoudu seriously said this, he looked over Meng Weiyu’s face, turned his head, and said, “Pfft.”
Meng Weiyu knew clearly that he had just been toyed with.
“Do you want anything else?” Shen Zhoudu reached out and flicked Meng Weiyu’s hair, his eyes staring unblinkingly at this familiar face. He could not stand it. Meng Weiyu was already eye-catching enough. Why did he still have to dress so flashily?
“I want you to stop looking at me with that ‘I’ve been charmed by you again’ gaze.” Meng Weiyu raised his hand and brushed his hand away.
“Nonsense. I’m clearly disgusted with you.” Shen Zhoudu refused to admit it.
“Hmph.” Meng Weiyu smiled disdainfully and proudly.
“Then let’s go home,” Shen Zhoudu said to him.
Meng Weiyu touched his neck. It seemed he had no other choice.
The two walked along the street. Yesterday had been a stormy day, so there were few pedestrians on the road. The green leaves of the big trees were still dripping with water, and both the grass and the pavement were wet. Some children ran around with their companions, their rain-booted feet deliberately stepping into puddles and splashing up clear droplets.
Shen Zhoudu slowly walked on the outside of the road to prevent water from splashing onto Meng Weiyu.
“Did you play like this when you were little?” Meng Weiyu smiled as he watched the giggling children chasing and hugging each other.
“No.” Shen Zhoudu’s attitude was cold. “My mother didn’t like it.”
“What about your father?” Meng Weiyu smiled cheerfully.
“Mm, he didn’t like it either.”
Meng Weiyu looked at Shen Zhoudu. His smile remained unchanged as he said, “Your parents seem very strict.”
“My mother’s family is basically in the education industry. My father’s side is in fields like hospitals and aviation. They’re all rather serious people and don’t like children getting dirty.” There was a reason Shen Zhoudu had been calm and steady since childhood.
Hearing this, Meng Weiyu thought for a moment.
Shen Zhoudu quickly glanced at him. He was now at the point of trying every possible way to talk to Meng Weiyu, so he was just about to ask in return, What about you? Did you play like this when you were little?
Thinking about it, Meng Weiyu’s childhood was indeed a blind spot in his knowledge.
Shen Zhoudu was curious about everything related to him. Just as he opened his mouth and was about to speak, Meng Weiyu’s second question interrupted his thoughts.
“Your parents are so strict and traditional. How did they accept you marrying a man?” Meng Weiyu keenly sensed the hidden information inside.
Hearing this, Shen Zhoudu trembled all over.
Whatever he did was usually subtle, and he was skilled at hiding his emotions. Unfortunately, the two of them were too close now. Even his tiny tremble could be transmitted to Meng Weiyu, not to mention that Meng Weiyu had been staring at his face the whole time, observing his reaction.
“A secret marriage!” Wow, how could he have agreed to something like this?
“It wasn’t a secret marriage. Our marriage was publicly announced.” Shen Zhoudu disdained doing things secretly, except when he used to have a crush on Meng Weiyu and acted sneakily.
“Then why did you tremble?” He had only lost his memory, not his intelligence. Don’t even think about playing tricks in front of him.
Shen Zhoudu looked at Meng Weiyu’s face and revealed an expression of wanting to speak but stopping himself. In the end, he solemnly promised, “I’ll handle this matter properly as soon as possible.”
Meng Weiyu was full of questions. Why did he suddenly say something so headless and tailless?
The two arrived beside the car. Lin Xiao had long since noticed them and opened the door.
Meng Weiyu originally wanted to trap Shen Zhoudu inside the car and continue questioning what exactly was going on. But once Shen Zhoudu got into the car, he immediately opened the pet carrier, picked up Xueci, tossed the cat to Meng Weiyu, and then leaned to the side to shut himself off.
“Meow, meow, meow.” After staying inside the carrier for a while, Xueci had finally come out and wanted nothing more than to roll around hard in Meng Weiyu’s arms.
“Hahaha.” Meng Weiyu dutifully cared for his great-grandson and took time to glance at Shen Zhoudu.
Why was he still shutting himself off!
The car followed a familiar route and stopped in the underground garage of a magnificent residential complex.
Shen Zhoudu put Xueci back into the pet carrier, picked up all the things, and got out of the car.
Meng Weiyu limped along, clutching his only piece of luggage—the balloon—and followed behind him.
“What happened to your foot?” Shen Zhoudu stopped walking.
“That bad cat kept nesting in my arms earlier, making me afraid to change position. I sat like that the whole time, and now my leg’s numb.” Meng Weiyu resentfully looked at Xueci.
“Meow.” It knew nothing and happily rolled around inside the carrier.
Shen Zhoudu carried everything in one hand, then reached out to Meng Weiyu.
Meng Weiyu finally caught up. He did not accept Shen Zhoudu’s helping hand. Instead, he walked behind him, placed his chin on Shen Zhoudu’s shoulder, and joked, “Carry me on your back.”
“Then…” Shen Zhoudu prepared to crouch.
“I was joking.” Meng Weiyu quickly patted his shoulder and continued moving forward.
“Alright.” Shen Zhoudu took two steps and arrived beside him. “If you feel uncomfortable anywhere, you can tell me anytime.”
Meng Weiyu finally smiled. This was the first time he had the thought that Shen Zhoudu was not such a bad person.
At this moment, the innocent little demon Young Master Meng absolutely could not have imagined that this simple thought would directly send him tumbling into the deepest level of hell twenty minutes later.
Shen Zhoudu brought Meng Weiyu up to the twenty-fifth floor, then familiarly came to the door. He originally wanted to open it directly, but only after standing at the entrance did he remember something and waved at Meng Weiyu.
Meng Weiyu was satisfiedly looking at the scenery outside. After seeing Shen Zhoudu’s gesture, he directly hopped over.
“Press your left and right index fingers here to unlock it,” Shen Zhoudu explained to him.
“Oh.”
“If your fingers are inconvenient, you can enter the password.” Shen Zhoudu turned his head and softly told him the password. “Remember it?”
“I remember.” If he did not open the door soon, Meng Weiyu was going to dislike him for being too slow.
Shen Zhoudu laughed and opened the door, showing Meng Weiyu their current home.
“Wow.” The moment the door opened, Meng Weiyu let out an admiring sound. The first thing that entered his eyes was a spacious and bright floor-to-ceiling window. A cool breeze blew over, lifting the gray-blue curtains with the wind, and the scenery by the river could be seen.
At dusk, orange-yellow light made the river water glitter. The buildings on both sides opened wide, and the water and sky seemed to become one, like a fairyland on earth.
“I had someone come clean this morning.” Shen Zhoudu closed the door. “Are you satisfied?”
His words received no reply. Shen Zhoudu hurriedly turned his head and discovered that Meng Weiyu had already rushed to the balcony to look at the scenery.
The floor-to-ceiling window here was not the edge of the house, because a stretch of greenery extended outward.
Everything in this place had been designed according to Meng Weiyu’s wishes.
“Our master bedroom is on the second floor.” Seeing how happy he looked, Shen Zhoudu felt much more at ease. He bent down and opened the pet carrier. “When Xueci is in the living room, the inner door needs to be closed to prevent him from running out.”
Hearing this, Meng Weiyu retreated back inside and closed the door.
Although the scenery was less beautiful like this, the kitten was still more important.
Only after Shen Zhoudu saw him close the balcony door did he release the cat. Then he gestured to him. “I’ll take you to see the bedroom.”
Because this perfect house that could only appear in dreams had made Meng Weiyu feel sweet inside, he was momentarily careless and completely unguarded. With cheerful steps, he followed Shen Zhoudu upstairs.
“Here.” Shen Zhoudu opened a door. Then, with one hand behind his back, the eyes behind his glasses carrying a desire-twisted smile, he welcomed Meng Weiyu inside.
It was completely a wolf welcoming a sheep into its den.
Unfortunately, Meng Weiyu had been blinded by the previous sugar-coated bullets and completely ignored the sinister expression of this scheming glasses-wearer. Happily, he ran inside.
This was a tidy and elegant room. It had more furniture than ordinary rooms. Aside from the usual large bed, wardrobe, and bedside tables, there were also two large display cabinets embedded into the wall. The cabinets had a rotating design. If they were not rotated outward, they blended into the wall, looking low-key.
There were many things, but everything was in perfect order, showing an extraordinary design style.
It was a room Meng Weiyu liked: expensive with taste, and while tasteful, still clearly looking expensive.
“This place really…” Meng Weiyu revealed a satisfied smile and was just about to share his full contentment with Shen Zhoudu.
Bang.
The door was shut.
Meng Weiyu froze.
The room’s curtains had been drawn from the start, leaving only a thin slit for light. When the bedroom door closed, the whole room’s atmosphere changed. The bright tone turned dim. The cabinets, which originally had no sense of presence, instantly occupied all attention, as if they were slowly moving out from the wall and suddenly becoming oppressive giants, ready to press someone down until they could not move.
A terrifying illusion.
Shen Zhoudu quickly approached Meng Weiyu. Meng Weiyu was startled. In desperation, he retreated step after step, until his back directly hit one of the cabinets and he had no way out.
A shadow fell over him.
Meng Weiyu raised his head.
“So, how should we sleep tonight?” Shen Zhoudu reached out and touched the hair beside his cheek, his smile hidden in the shadows.
