Chapter 25: Shen Zhoudu Got Drunk
This balcony was like a giant picture frame, turning the world outside into a flowing landscape within a painting.
The evening breeze, the moon, the river surface shimmering with light—everything was inside the frame, yet everything was beyond control.
Shen Zhoudu took a drag from his cigarette. Thinking about what had happened during the day, he could not help but sigh.
Smoke and moonlight blended together.
“You smoke?” A voice suddenly sounded beside him.
Shen Zhoudu was startled and immediately turned his head toward the voice.
Meng Weiyu’s face instantly entered his view.
Shen Zhoudu’s heart skipped a beat, his pupils widening.
If the four sides of the balcony were a picture frame, trapping the flowing scenery of the night, then Shen Zhoudu’s eyes were also a picture frame, wanting to preserve everything he saw before him within them.
Meng Weiyu was staring at him, so when Shen Zhoudu turned his head, their eyes met instantly.
“Hm?” Meng Weiyu narrowed his eyes and said meaningfully, “And drinking.”
Hearing Meng Weiyu’s voice, Shen Zhoudu’s head, already a little dizzy from alcohol, instantly forgot that the person before him currently only had memories from when he was seventeen—and that those memories barely contained anything related to him. He hurriedly stubbed out the cigarette in a fluster, then hastily picked up the wine glass beside him, wanting to take a sip to calm himself down. In the end, he choked instead.
“Cough, cough.” Shen Zhoudu raised the back of his hand to cover his mouth and kept coughing.
Meng Weiyu had just poured a glass of mineral water. He silently looked at the water he had taken a sip from, then looked at Shen Zhoudu, who was coughing nonstop. Hesitantly and uneasily, he handed the glass over. As he stretched out his hand, he could not help reminding him, “I drank from this. If you don’t mind…”
Shen Zhoudu did not even have time to listen to him finish. The moment he saw him hand over a glass of water, he immediately took it and drank.
“Mm-hm.” An indirect kiss.
If it had been someone else, Meng Weiyu would have joked about it like that. Unfortunately, it seemed he could not casually say something like that to the person in front of him.
So troublesome.
“Cough, cough.” After Shen Zhoudu finished the whole glass of water, his coughing finally stopped.
“The glass.” Meng Weiyu reached out to him.
Shen Zhoudu’s mind was already a complete mess, not to mention he had long been used to obeying Meng Weiyu’s orders, so without thinking, he handed the glass back to him.
Meng Weiyu took the glass and turned to leave.
Shen Zhoudu’s posture instantly changed from leaning back to sitting upright. His hand rested on the armrest, and he stared pitifully at Meng Weiyu’s back.
Meng Weiyu poured another glass of water, took a tissue along the way, then walked back toward Shen Zhoudu.
When Shen Zhoudu saw him return, he appeared calm on the surface, but his eyes lit up in an instant.
“Wipe your mouth first.” Meng Weiyu handed him the tissue.
Shen Zhoudu took the tissue and obediently wiped his mouth carefully.
“Then drink another glass of water.” Meng Weiyu handed the water to him.
Shen Zhoudu lifted his head and drank. While drinking, his eyes remained fixed on Meng Weiyu, his pale blue eyes not blinking even once.
After he finished the water, Shen Zhoudu placed the glass on the table and finally calmed down a little.
Meng Weiyu sat down on the chair beside him and looked at Shen Zhoudu’s proper, upright face in surprise. Even now, he still could not believe that the person before him had overturned the image in his memory in just a short second. He sighed emotionally, “You actually smoke and drink.”
“I only drink occasionally. I already quit smoking,” Shen Zhoudu explained, feeling extremely guilty as he said it.
Meng Weiyu looked at him with contempt. He was far too good at telling lies from the truth.
“Really. Look at my nails. They haven’t turned yellow.” Shen Zhoudu smoothly said something only someone who often smoked would know, then stretched his hand out in front of Meng Weiyu.
Meng Weiyu glanced at him. Then he directly took Shen Zhoudu’s hand with his left hand, lowered his head to look, and sniffed it. From Shen Zhoudu’s angle, his movement looked just like a cat’s—obedient and very beautiful.
Shen Zhoudu’s heart instantly blossomed with joy.
His cold, stern face could not express his complicated and colorful inner world, but through the windows to the soul, his eyes shone brilliantly because of this feeling, like the flowing scenery of the sky.
“It reeks of smoke.” Meng Weiyu let go of Shen Zhoudu’s hand and stated the fact without any emotion.
Hearing this, Shen Zhoudu also smelled his own hand, but with his nose right now, he could not smell anything at all.
“When did you learn to smoke and drink?” Meng Weiyu was greatly shocked. He knew it—someone like this, who looked emotionless and like an ascetic monk who only maintained his persona, was actually this chaotic behind the scenes.
When Shen Zhoudu saw his expression, he smiled and made a skilled cigarette-holding gesture at him. “I learned in college because I was under a bit of pressure. But I quit very quickly. Now I only smoke one occasionally. I’m not addicted.”
“Whoa.” Meng Weiyu was still marveling that one really could not judge a person by appearance.
Shen Zhoudu smiled calmly at his reaction, picked up the wine glass beside him, took a sip, and looked at him with a smile that was obviously drunk.
“Are there that many things going on at the company?” Meng Weiyu could clearly feel that ever since Shen Zhoudu had returned home today, something had been off about him.
“It’s fine.” Shen Zhoudu was telling the truth.
Meng Weiyu sighed inwardly that this man was really the type who would not let out a single dull fart even after being punched three times.
Holding the wine glass, Shen Zhoudu slowly tilted his head back. His Adam’s apple moved up and down as he drank the rest of the wine in the glass.
He had only been slightly tipsy at first, but after finishing the last sip, he let out a small burp. The alcohol rushed to his head, and he became completely dizzy.
“Hehe.” Shen Zhoudu held the glass in his hand. The transparent glass reflected the neon lights. He propped his chin on the back of his hand and focused intently on admiring Meng Weiyu’s face.
“You’re drunk.” A normal Shen Zhoudu would never show that kind of smile.
Shen Zhoudu nodded and told him dazedly, “A little.”
Meng Weiyu sighed. He did not want to waste time here with a drunkard.
“Xiao Yu, Xiao Yu.” Shen Zhoudu called him.
“What?” Meng Weiyu said irritably.
“Xiao Yu is my wife.” Shen Zhoudu nodded solemnly, fully agreeing with this matter himself.
“Hey, this ‘wife’ thing—are you calling me that one-sidedly, or did we both agree to it?” Meng Weiyu pointed at him with his finger, pursuing the matter. He really could not accept Shen Zhoudu taking advantage of him like this.
“Burp.” Shen Zhoudu currently had no way of understanding what Meng Weiyu was saying. He suddenly burped for no reason, and his eyes became even more unfocused.
Seeing that the light in Shen Zhoudu’s eyes could not gather at all, Meng Weiyu understood that talking to him now was completely useless. So he simply said, “Go back and sleep.”
Hearing his instruction, Shen Zhoudu immediately stood up, his body swaying crookedly.
Meng Weiyu was startled by him. He was afraid Shen Zhoudu would lose his balance and fall straight down, so he wanted to get up and support him. His butt had only just left the chair a little when Shen Zhoudu walked in front of him and stretched out his hand, tightly grabbing Meng Weiyu’s shoulder.
His wound was touched. Meng Weiyu sucked in a breath and frowned at Shen Zhoudu. He hated dealing with drunkards too much.
Shen Zhoudu forcefully pressed him back onto the chair. After Meng Weiyu sat down, Shen Zhoudu plopped down on the floor beside him.
“Hey.” Meng Weiyu wanted to pull him up.
Following Meng Weiyu’s hand, Shen Zhoudu grabbed his wrist, looked at the person sitting in front of him, lowered his head, and slowly rested it on Meng Weiyu’s thigh.
Meng Weiyu froze.
Shen Zhoudu’s head rubbed against his thigh. Then he raised his eyes to look at Meng Weiyu, his blue eyes like clear flowing water.
Although Meng Weiyu often spoke viciously, honestly speaking, he was not that bad of a person. On top of that, during this period of time, Shen Zhoudu had indeed taken care of him with all his heart. The little grudges between them before were no longer worth clinging to. Perhaps it was because the evening breeze was too gentle, or perhaps it was because the drunk Shen Zhoudu looked too pitiful. Meng Weiyu rarely did not shake him off. Instead, he reached out and touched Shen Zhoudu’s head.
There was a bit of a psychological barrier, but he could treat it as petting an animal.
Looking at Shen Zhoudu’s familiar yet unfamiliar face, Meng Weiyu began hypnotizing himself.
“Xiao Yu…” Shen Zhoudu called him.
“What?” Meng Weiyu did not expect him to be able to communicate at all.
Shen Zhoudu hid his face.
All the feelings in his heart could not be poured out through his mouth.
Meng Weiyu is mine.
We cannot divorce.
If we divorce, then I would rather the two of us together…
Meng Weiyu watched Shen Zhoudu’s eyes close. The head leaning against his thigh suddenly grew heavy, and Shen Zhoudu’s full weight pressed over.
“Hey, hey, hey.” Meng Weiyu reached out without hesitation and patted his cheek. If possible, he would have preferred to slap him directly.
No matter how Meng Weiyu bothered him, Shen Zhoudu still did not react at all.
“He’s really completely drunk to death.” Meng Weiyu leaned back helplessly.
There had been a heavy rain in the evening, and the night wind carried a chill.
Because Shen Zhoudu had been drinking earlier, he was both cold and hot, and had unconsciously undone the top button of his shirt. Meng Weiyu judged that if he stayed here any longer, he would definitely catch a cold. So he had no choice but to place both hands on Shen Zhoudu and laboriously help him up. Shen Zhoudu leaned completely against Meng Weiyu, his face pressing over, his entire weight falling on him.
“It hurts like hell.” Meng Weiyu used his injured right hand to wrap around Shen Zhoudu’s waist. He had originally wanted to imitate what Shen Zhoudu had done before and carry him up in one go. But he only looked fine on the surface. In reality, whether it was his hands or his feet, he could not use any strength at all. In the end, he could only support Shen Zhoudu and move step by step toward the room on the first floor.
This torturous process was exceptionally long.
When Meng Weiyu, physically disabled but strong-willed, finally brought Shen Zhoudu back to the room and reached the bedside, he impatiently half-dropped, half-supported Shen Zhoudu onto the bed.
Unfortunately, he forgot that he was currently tangled too much with Shen Zhoudu. The moment Shen Zhoudu fell, he dragged Meng Weiyu down with him.
Meng Weiyu ended up pressing down on Shen Zhoudu’s body, his neck hooked by him and held tightly.
It rather felt like a dead ghost looking for company.
Meng Weiyu was out of breath. After taking two deep breaths, he reached out and struggled to move Shen Zhoudu’s hand away.
Finally regaining his freedom, Meng Weiyu propped his elbow against the bed and pushed himself up.
Once he pulled away, Shen Zhoudu’s face was right in front of him.
Like this, he had pinned Shen Zhoudu down on the bed.
When Meng Weiyu realized the situation, he buried his face back into the blanket with a defeated expression.
So helpless.
Heaven, please spare him. He and Shen Zhoudu simply could not get along.
Meng Weiyu sat up and, with a face that looked like he had lost all will to live, covered Shen Zhoudu with the blanket.
“Xiao Yu.” Shen Zhoudu suddenly spoke.
Meng Weiyu was startled, then looked over.
Shen Zhoudu was still in a dream, reaching out to hug the blanket.
“If we divorce, I’ll take you with me in death.”
“You really have something wrong with your brain!” Meng Weiyu could not help pointing at his nose and scolding him.
But…
Meng Weiyu sat by the bed and thought for a moment. Then he lowered his head, leaned close to Shen Zhoudu’s ear, and told him a secret: “You can’t do something like that. But if I were the one dealing with a lover who changed their heart, I really could kill us both.”
After saying that, Meng Weiyu was expressionless. His black eyes looked gloomily at Shen Zhoudu.
Shen Zhoudu had already fallen asleep.
“You chose the wrong marriage partner.”
The next day.
Sunlight from outside the window fell along the edge of the bed. Shen Zhoudu suddenly woke from his dream and sat up in bed, reaching out to touch his chest. In his sleep, the buttons of his pajama shirt had come undone, exposing his strong chest. He reached up and brushed his bangs back, revealing a handsome yet confused face.
“Looks like I drank too much last night. Luckily, I still knew how to come back and sleep by myself.” Shen Zhoudu’s tone was cold, while he secretly let out an inexplicable sigh of relief.
“You’re dreaming…” A weak voice answered Shen Zhoudu.
When Shen Zhoudu heard that familiar voice, his eyes slowly widened. He immediately looked in the direction of the voice.
On the sofa, the blanket wriggled, and Meng Weiyu’s face emerged.
He looked exhausted, as if he very much wanted to curse at Shen Zhoudu.
“Why are you here?” Shen Zhoudu asked in disbelief. His messy bedhead looked fluffy and chaotic, just like his heart.
Meng Weiyu’s fist unconsciously clenched inside the blanket. Full of resentment, he said, “You actually don’t remember.”
Last night, he had poured water for him, dragged his injured body to bring him back to the room, and, in the middle of the night, was afraid he would fall off the bed and did not dare sleep too deeply. After so many things, did he not remember a single one?
“I only remember drinking on the balcony, then you gave me a glass of water…” Shen Zhoudu showed a puzzled expression. Then he touched his neck, wanting to recall more details, but unfortunately, his mind was completely blank.
Meng Weiyu reached out and pointed at him irritably. He wanted to say something accusing, but unfortunately, he was too tired. His finger gradually lowered, and he closed his eyes again, sliding back into the blanket.
Forget it. He would hold him accountable next time.
Shen Zhoudu thought of something and hurriedly found his phone at the head of the bed to check the time.
He was startled and quickly pushed the blanket away. While putting on his shoes, he said to Meng Weiyu, “I have a meeting this morning. If I don’t leave now, I’ll be late. Xiao Yu, we’ll contact each other by phone later.”
“Hurry…” And get lost.
Meng Weiyu, who had taken care of him all night, was so tired he was about to faint.
Shen Zhoudu wanted to be quiet, but he did not have much time left, so he could only wash up hurriedly in the bathroom, then rush to open the wardrobe and change clothes.
When he took off his clothes, Meng Weiyu secretly opened his eyes and admired his well-trained back.
Before leaving the room, Shen Zhoudu walked to Meng Weiyu’s side, crouched down, and said to him, “Go sleep on the bed.”
“I don’t want to. It reeks of alcohol.” Meng Weiyu closed his eyes and refused.
“Then bye-bye.” Shen Zhoudu reached out and, while Meng Weiyu was unprepared, quickly touched his face. Before Meng Weiyu could curse at him, he slipped away.
Meng Weiyu was not as petty as Shen Zhoudu imagined. He weakly opened his eyes and watched Shen Zhoudu quickly run off to work.
“Tsk. Adults really have it hard.” After sighing, Meng Weiyu continued sleeping.
Meng Weiyu slept until after eleven before finally getting up in a daze. Uncle Wang had received Shen Zhoudu’s message and had already prepared food for him. Meng Weiyu sat at the dining table, bored, eating a meal that was both breakfast and lunch.
Xueci was playing with a cat teaser toy with Uncle Wang nearby.
“Hehe.” Being a cat was too blissful.
Meng Weiyu’s phone, placed beside him, vibrated.
Holding a glass of warm water in one hand, he numbly took a sip, then checked the message.
Ning Wu: Brother.
Meng Weiyu replied with a fist-bump emoji.
Ning Wu: Everyone knows about your divorce now.
“Cough.” Meng Weiyu instantly choked on a mouthful of water.
Ning Wu: I didn’t expect you to be so high-profile. Everyone talked about it all day. I was too busy yesterday, so I only saw the screenshot of your divorce message today. You really need to calm down.
“What the hell?” Meng Weiyu followed Ning Wu’s chat messages upward and discovered that one sentence he had previously sent him was missing. Meng Weiyu was very smart. He instantly thought of the key issue, exited the chat page with Ning Wu, and returned to the main page.
Very quickly, he found the message he had sent to the wrong place.
“Heh.” He did not care.
Ning Wu: Your husband used his friend yesterday to issue a warning. No one is allowed to discuss this matter anymore.
Meng Weiyu: …
Meng Weiyu: Shen Zhoudu saw it, huh.
Ning Wu: Brother, I don’t know who didn’t see it. This gossip is too big.
Meng Weiyu: Why?
Ning Wu: Stop deliberately asking stupid questions.
Meng Weiyu: Oh.
“No wonder.” Meng Weiyu suddenly understood.
He knew Shen Zhoudu had looked strangely off last night.
Ning Wu: Brother, now it’s my turn to gossip. Have you really decided to divorce?
Meng Weiyu: Send me Shen Zhoudu’s company address first. I’m going to find him.
After Ning Wu received the message, he immediately sent Shen Zhoudu’s company address to Meng Weiyu. After sending it, he felt something was a little strange.
Ning Wu: What do you need Shen Zhoudu’s company address for?
Meng Weiyu: I’m going to charge over there right now and divorce him.
Ning Wu: !!!
Ning Wu: Brother, Xiao Yu, ancestor—no, calm down!
Ning Wu: Hey! Why aren’t you replying?
Ning Wu: If you really divorce, can you hire me as your lawyer? My workload has been a little lacking lately.
Ning Wu: Why did you disappear?
Ning Wu: No, forget it. I’d rather not earn this money. Don’t divorce!
