Chapter 30: President Shen’s Secretary
Sometimes, Meng Weiyu really was like a cat—overflowing with curiosity, able to entertain himself, and terribly vengeful.
Tonight, he should have been holding his beloved cat’s photo album and crying until tears poured down his face. In the end, that perfectly ordinary notebook stole all his attention instead. He lay on the bed, and before turning off the lights, he could not help picking up that notebook again and studying it from beginning to end. Unfortunately, even after exhausting his mind, he still could not discover anything unusual.
“Forget it. There’s nothing worth caring about with this kind of thing.” Meng Weiyu closed the notebook, casually tossed it onto the table, and turned off the light.
In the darkness, he lay on the bed, closed his eyes, and planned to sleep properly.
Time passed minute by minute, second by second. Suddenly, in the pitch-black room, the sound of a light being switched on rang out. Then the room lit up.
Meng Weiyu suddenly sat up from the bed, reached toward the bedside table, picked up the notebook again, and frantically flipped through it.
“Ah! No, I’m too curious. I can’t sleep at all!” Meng Weiyu quickly flipped through the notebook again. Then, giving up on himself, he threw the notebook away and lost his temper for no reason. “What secret is hidden here? I can’t guess it at all!”
A mystery without an answer dragged Meng Weiyu into an abyss of curiosity like a whirlpool.
One floor away, Shen Zhoudu’s room was filled with complete darkness.
In his sleep, he turned over uneasily. His breathing was steady, but he was not sleeping peacefully.
Shen Zhoudu was originally the type of person who was a little picky about beds and environments. Ever since he moved here to sleep, he often woke up in the middle of the night, then continued sleeping again in a daze.
“Mm.” Half-asleep and half-awake, Shen Zhoudu frowned in distress.
A hand reached onto his chest and gently patted him.
After being comforted, Shen Zhoudu felt much better. Just as he was about to turn over, he habitually wanted to hug the person who should have been sleeping beside him.
The space beside him was empty.
Shen Zhoudu sighed helplessly. He should get used to this.
The moment he made that unusual sound, the hand on his chest patted him gently again.
Shen Zhoudu: “…”
There was no one beside him, and his own hands had not moved. Who was coaxing him to sleep?
Shen Zhoudu was so frightened that his eyes flew open. He abruptly turned his body in the opposite direction.
“Fuck, you scared me!” Meng Weiyu’s terrified voice rang out in the darkness.
Shen Zhoudu groped around beside him, then switched on the bedside lamp.
The room instantly lit up with soft light. Shen Zhoudu, frightened into sweating at the forehead, looked toward the side of the bed.
Meng Weiyu was crouching beside the bed, revealing a guilty smile.
“I should be the one saying… you scared me to death.” Because he had just woken up, Shen Zhoudu was not speaking smoothly. After he understood that the person who had been comforting him just now was not some ghost, but Meng Weiyu, his mood instantly changed from fear to helplessness. “Because of you, my heart suddenly started beating so fast.”
“Is this another way of describing being moved?” Meng Weiyu asked, not entirely sure.
“It’s another way of describing being scared out of my wits.” Shen Zhoudu reached out to wipe the sweat from his forehead, then weakly lay back down on the bed.
Meng Weiyu noticed that he looked half-dead, so he once again stretched out his hand, placed it on his chest, and gently patted him. This was something he had learned from TV. Parents seemed to comfort children who had woken from nightmares like this.
“Stop touching. We haven’t done it for several days. I’m going to react.” Shen Zhoudu said irritably, “What’s wrong with you?”
Although Shen Zhoudu was still shaken, he could actually feel Meng Weiyu’s clumsy gentleness.
“Me?” Meng Weiyu crouched on the floor and leaned forward.
Shen Zhoudu glanced at him, then moved his body to the other side, leaving him a place to sit.
Meng Weiyu slightly lowered his head, his expression showing that he was thinking.
“If you have something to say, just say it.” Shen Zhoudu’s tired voice came out. His tone was still cold. Because he had suddenly been frightened awake, his body had warmed up, so he had no choice but to pull the blanket down a little.
“It’s just, that notebook…” Meng Weiyu had been investigating the issue of that one heart until he became sleepless. He had tossed and turned, itchy with curiosity, and finally could not help sneaking into Shen Zhoudu’s room.
After entering, he crouched beside Shen Zhoudu’s bed. At first, he had been struggling over whether he should continue staying here while also thinking about how to explain that he had not come to launch a midnight attack. Before his brain could come up with a perfect answer, Shen Zhoudu, who was lying on the bed, let out an urgent groan, as if disturbed by a nightmare and unable to find peace even during his rare rest time.
Meng Weiyu realized Shen Zhoudu was uncomfortable, so he imitated the comforting method he knew and gently patted his chest, hoping to give him a little relief.
In the end, good intentions went wrong, and Shen Zhoudu was frightened so badly his soul almost left his body.
Meng Weiyu felt guilty, so he continued placing his hand on Shen Zhoudu’s chest, doing his best to make it up to him.
Shen Zhoudu lay on the bed and looked at his serious appearance, silently smiling.
He only knew this one trick.
“Do you feel a little better?” Meng Weiyu asked him a new question, successfully throwing the notebook to the back of his mind.
“Mm.” Because of his closeness, Shen Zhoudu smelled the scent unique to Meng Weiyu and peacefully closed his eyes again.
Meng Weiyu watched Shen Zhoudu’s breathing gradually become steady with his own eyes and inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief.
Once his brain started working again, that relieved breath almost choked him to death.
Wait. He had come to Shen Zhoudu’s room hoping that Shen Zhoudu could answer his question so that he could sleep peacefully.
What was going on now? He had coaxed Shen Zhoudu to sleep, but he himself was still awake.
Meng Weiyu withdrew his hand from Shen Zhoudu’s chest, hugged his own head with both hands, and silently screamed.
He was a big idiot!
“Mm…” The moment his hand withdrew, Shen Zhoudu immediately let out a suppressed, painful sound.
Meng Weiyu had no choice but to pat his chest again.
Only then did Shen Zhoudu regain his peace.
At this moment, Meng Weiyu finally realized he had done something stupid. If he could only take care of Shen Zhoudu like this, then he could sleep even less now.
It was another ordinary morning. Before the alarm rang, Shen Zhoudu habitually opened his eyes first.
Morning sunlight penetrated the heavy curtains, illuminating the originally dark room. The light was like dancing dust, slowly gathering. As Shen Zhoudu opened his eyes, it revealed the room’s truest appearance.
Meng Weiyu was lying beside Shen Zhoudu. He lay on his side, facing Shen Zhoudu, with his hand beside his cheek. Beneath his soft hair was a face that looked obedient, completely unlike his personality.
Shen Zhoudu could not help widening his eyes. Then he reached out and touched his face.
It was actually real. He really wanted to pinch him.
“Mm.” Meng Weiyu frowned, his head tilting slightly down against the pillow.
“Bad thing.” Shen Zhoudu finally had the chance to scold him in front of his face.
“What did you say?” Meng Weiyu’s eyes were closed, but his mouth opened, and his voice naturally carried intimidation.
Shen Zhoudu had not expected him to actually be awake. Surprised, he propped himself up.
Meng Weiyu opened his eyes, glanced at him, then exhaustedly pointed at his bare chest. In his sleep, Shen Zhoudu had accidentally rubbed open all the buttons of his pajama top.
Shen Zhoudu lowered his head and glanced at his clothes, then smiled and took the shirt off completely. Afterward, he propped his body over Meng Weiyu’s.
“Is this the only move you have?” Meng Weiyu was tired of it. He was certain Shen Zhoudu would not do anything to him, so he stayed unmoving.
Hearing this, Shen Zhoudu quickly lowered his head toward him.
Meng Weiyu wanted to see what other move he had.
Shen Zhoudu used his chin to rub against Meng Weiyu’s face.
“Stubble! It’s stubble! It tickles, it tickles, hurry up and get lost!” Meng Weiyu wanted to push him away, but all he touched were chest muscles.
The scene was truly too obscene.
That was what the seventeen-year-old high school student thought.
The phone alarm he had set finally rang.
Shen Zhoudu sat by the bed and groped around until he found his phone.
“Ahhh.” Meng Weiyu lay on the bed and desperately rubbed his face. He had been violated. He would never be able to marry out now.
“I have to go to work.” Shen Zhoudu had no choice but to stand up. “Tomorrow is the weekend. At that time, we’ll leave in the morning to go to Grandpa and Grandma’s house. Let’s try to come back after lunch.”
“You don’t seem to like my grandparents and my maternal grandparents.” Meng Weiyu lay on the bed, rolled himself in the blanket beside him, and looked at Shen Zhoudu curiously.
“It’s not that I dislike them.” Shen Zhoudu denied it while walking toward the bathroom. “But honestly speaking, we don’t get along very well.”
“You don’t get along well with my family.” Meng Weiyu stretched out a finger, sorting out the current interpersonal relationships. “And your family doesn’t like me either. Why exactly are we together?”
“Because the person I like is you, not your family. I also really want to have a good relationship with your family. It’s just that there has been very little improvement so far. Your grandfather likes successful people, right? After I finish this project, I’ll visit again.” Shen Zhoudu did not take it to heart. “There are always some trials on the path of true love. This kind of thing isn’t a problem between the two of us, so it doesn’t count as much of a challenge.”
“Heh.” Meng Weiyu chuckled softly, propping his head with one hand as he leisurely looked toward the bathroom.
A perfectionist like Shen Zhoudu—did he think that as long as he was excellent, everyone would definitely like him?
“I’ll also handle things on my parents’ side. Anyway, since you’ve lost your memory now, it’s best that you don’t come into contact with them either.” Shen Zhoudu was brushing his teeth.
“You can handle everything.” Meng Weiyu asked curiously, “Then what am I supposed to do?”
Shen Zhoudu’s voice came from the bathroom without the slightest hesitation. “Stay by my side. Let me do these things. Then I’ll be able to do them for you.”
Meng Weiyu shook his head and laughed, clearly not agreeing with Shen Zhoudu’s words.
What an arrogant man.
After washing up, Shen Zhoudu came out of the bathroom neatly and opened the wardrobe in the room, looking for clothes suitable for today.
“If you need anything while you’re home alone, send me a message.” Shen Zhoudu’s instructions were the same as always.
“I’m too bored at home alone!” Meng Weiyu spread his hands, rolled around on the bed, and stared blankly at the ceiling. He had originally been someone who liked liveliness very much. Spending this period of time alone was truly suffocating him.
Shen Zhoudu turned and glanced at him, putting on a dark gray short-sleeved shirt.
“Find me something to do.” Meng Weiyu anxiously pointed at himself.
“Then tidy up the house.” This place was spacious and had many things. Even after a whole day, he probably would not be able to clean half of it.
The moment those words fell, Meng Weiyu’s voice disappeared.
As Shen Zhoudu adjusted his sleeves, he turned back with a smile.
The moment labor was involved, Meng Weiyu started playing dead.
“Then do you want to come to my company and be my temporary personal secretary?” Shen Zhoudu walked to the cabinet, picked up his watch, put it on his wrist, then picked up the two rings placed in the box and put them on with practiced movements.
“Can I?” Meng Weiyu instantly sat up excitedly. There was actually something to do!
“Go brush your teeth and wash your face. Change into proper clothes. I’ll wait for you in the living room.” Shen Zhoudu had nothing more to say.
Hearing this, Meng Weiyu immediately jumped off the bed with his messy hair. He was glowing with energy and hurriedly put on his slippers before running out.
Shen Zhoudu helplessly shook his head. Then he finally found the chance to return to the wardrobe and take off his pajama pants.
“What time do you need to leave by?” Meng Weiyu suddenly came back, poking his head in and looking over.
Once again with his pants halfway off, Shen Zhoudu, after a brief hesitation, simply took off the remaining part of his pants as well, took out a pair of suit pants from the wardrobe, and told him, “There’s no rush, but don’t dawdle too much either.”
“Then I’ll quickly change clothes.” Meng Weiyu ran away with cheerful steps.
When Meng Weiyu truly wanted to do something, he was very efficient. After changing his clothes, he quickly ran downstairs.
President Shen was currently sitting on the sofa, casually placing his right hand on the sofa armrest, his fingers boredly patting the soft fabric. Hearing footsteps, he calmly turned his head and immediately saw Meng Weiyu wearing a black short-sleeved shirt and cargo pants. Although Meng Weiyu neglected exercise, this person’s figure was naturally good—thin waist, long legs, slender and perfect. Even if he casually threw on any clothes, he looked like a fashion model who had walked out of a magazine.
“Come here.” Shen Zhoudu beckoned to him.
After learning that Shen Zhoudu was going to take him to work, Meng Weiyu was in an excited state all over. When Shen Zhoudu called him over, he obediently bounced over.
Shen Zhoudu had him sit on the sofa, took out the comb he had prepared earlier, and helped Meng Weiyu tidy his hair.
When the comb brushed his bangs downward, Meng Weiyu could not help closing his eyes so that the overly long hair would not poke into them.
“All done.” Shen Zhoudu reached out, tucked his hair behind his ears, then parted his bangs slightly. “After work tonight, I’ll take you to get your hair trimmed. Your hair really is too long now.”
“Okay, then.” Meng Weiyu reached out to grab his own bangs, using the movement to hide his reddened cheeks.
“Let’s go.” Shen Zhoudu stood up from the sofa.
Meng Weiyu immediately followed him.
He had an excessive enthusiasm for mixing among crowds of people.
Also, Meng Weiyu was very passionate about role-playing.
When the car arrived at the company entrance, Meng Weiyu quickly unbuckled his seatbelt and told Shen Zhoudu to wait a moment.
Shen Zhoudu looked confused, but he was too used to listening to Meng Weiyu, so he obediently sat in place and waited.
After Meng Weiyu got out of the car, he ran around the back of the sedan to Shen Zhoudu’s side. Then he opened the car door for him and leaned inside.
Shen Zhoudu looked at Meng Weiyu’s face approaching his thigh, and his body automatically leaned back.
Meng Weiyu helped him unfasten his seatbelt, then stood straight, raised his hand, and welcomed him. “President Shen, please get out of the car.”
Shen Zhoudu: “…”
Lin Xiao curiously turned his head back.
“I’m really a little scared now.” How had he been possessed this morning and brought up letting the current Meng Weiyu follow him to the company?
No matter how frightened he was, he could not stop something that had already been decided. Shen Zhoudu could only get out of the car.
“President Shen, I’ll support you.” Meng Weiyu, whose acting addiction had been suppressed for several days, was now fully indulging himself.
“Stop playing.” Shen Zhoudu grabbed Meng Weiyu’s hand and dragged him forward.
“Don’t be like this. I’m a proper secretary,” Meng Weiyu expressed his objection from behind him.
While they were chatting, the automatic doors happened to open. Meng Weiyu’s voice just happened to travel inside, and the people nearby all looked over.
Shen Zhoudu helplessly raised his eyes and coldly swept his gaze over the people looking at them.
The employees all stared at the ceiling one after another, pretending they had heard nothing.
Shen Zhoudu pulled Meng Weiyu to the elevator.
“President Shen, stand there. I’ll press the elevator.” Meng Weiyu shook off Shen Zhoudu’s hand and hurriedly passed him to press the elevator.
The employee standing beside them, who was responsible for pressing the elevator every day: “…”
“Are you going up or down?” Meng Weiyu thought he was there to take the elevator too and prepared to press the button for the employee as well.
The employee naturally recognized Meng Weiyu’s face, so after a little thought, he told him, “Sideways.”
“Hahahaha.” Meng Weiyu laughed, purely because he found the way he spoke interesting.
“Ding.” The elevator arrived.
Meng Weiyu stretched out his hand to hold the elevator door, then invited Shen Zhoudu inside. “President Shen, please.”
The employee really wanted to ask: If Meng Weiyu did his job, then what was he supposed to do?
Shen Zhoudu hesitated over whether he should simply take the day off and go home, but under Meng Weiyu’s extremely excited gaze, he still entered the elevator after some inner struggle.
After Shen Zhoudu entered the elevator, Meng Weiyu hurried inside as well.
The elevator doors slowly closed. The employees thought the two of them could no longer see the situation outside, so they all poked their heads out and curiously looked around.
Shen Zhoudu took in everyone’s reactions and began accepting that today was a day of suffering he could not avoid.
“President Shen, is there anything else you need?” Meng Weiyu stood ready.
Shen Zhoudu opened his mouth, then slowly said, “Nothing for now.”
“That’s true. What can one do in an elevator?” Meng Weiyu understood what he meant.
“There are plenty of things one can do.” Shen Zhoudu refuted him.
“For example?” Meng Weiyu raised his brow with a smile.
Shen Zhoudu glanced at him, then let out a “heh.”
He clearly knew Shen Zhoudu was going to say something about teasing him. What was there to ask?
“Mm?” Meng Weiyu looked over with shining eyes.
Shen Zhoudu had originally been standing expressionlessly in the center of the elevator. Hearing Meng Weiyu’s urging words, his leather shoes turned to the side, and he took a step directly toward Meng Weiyu.
Meng Weiyu had already predicted his move and simultaneously shifted into the corner.
Shen Zhoudu blocked him in front and lowered his head to tell him, “In this bit of time, hugging, kissing—anything can be done.”
“Too obscene. I strongly condemn you!” Meng Weiyu seized the chance to tease Shen Zhoudu.
Shen Zhoudu laughed once. He had long guessed what Meng Weiyu was playing at, so he scared him. “Be careful. Next time I find the chance, I’ll really kiss you until you faint.”
Meng Weiyu raised his hand disdainfully and shook it proudly, directly refusing. “Stop saying those gay, gay topics to me.”
“Is that so?” Shen Zhoudu delivered a killing blow to the wicked high schooler. “I’m gay, and so are you.”
The elevator sounded a notification, informing the passengers that they had arrived at their destination.
This elevator was Shen Zhoudu’s private direct elevator. When someone rode it, Ye Hongxu immediately knew Shen Zhoudu had arrived at work and hurried to the door to receive him.
The elevator doors opened, and a familiar pained voice instantly came from inside.
Meng Weiyu, who had been the first to attack, collapsed completely in the face of cruel reality.
Shen Zhoudu grabbed Meng Weiyu by the back of his collar and dragged him out.
“Breakfast has already been prepared according to your instructions,” Ye Hongxu followed behind the two of them.
“Hongxu, thanks.” Shen Zhoudu placed Meng Weiyu into the room.
“There is a lot of work today. The documents that need to be handled early have already been placed on your desk. I’ll come later to collect the completed portion.” Ye Hongxu closed the office door.
This office was so spacious that it looked like a small conference room. A rich breakfast was arranged on the table.
Shen Zhoudu carried Meng Weiyu to the sofa and told him, “Eat breakfast first. After that, I’ll have Hongxu find secretary work for you.”
“What about you?” Meng Weiyu knew very well that Shen Zhoudu did not actually need him to do anything. He had only brought him along because he saw he was too bored.
“I have my own breakfast.” Shen Zhoudu sat down at his desk.
Meng Weiyu curiously looked around.
After Shen Zhoudu sat down, his upper body was blocked by the computer. But he still stretched out his hand and showed Meng Weiyu the breakfast in his hand.
A sandwich.
Shen Zhoudu put down the sandwich, raised the steaming coffee beside his hand, and took a sip.
And a cup of coffee.
Meng Weiyu looked at Shen Zhoudu’s breakfast, then looked at the entire table of breakfast specially prepared for him. He suddenly felt like he was very immoral.
Because the breakfast Shen Zhoudu had people prepare for him was too abundant, Meng Weiyu ate for an hour. Only when he was so full that he collapsed on the sofa and could not move did breakfast time finally end.
Ever since Shen Zhoudu sat down at his desk, he had been so busy that he had no time to say a word to him. Meng Weiyu touched his full stomach and suddenly realized that even after coming to this company, he was still very bored.
“Mr. Meng, are you full?” A sudden voice sounded behind Meng Weiyu.
“You scared me.” Although Meng Weiyu said this, he showed a faint smile and turned his eyes around without moving.
“If you’re full, we’ll clear away the breakfast.” Ye Hongxu was extremely respectful.
“Mm.” Meng Weiyu leaned back indifferently, naturally enjoying being served.
With Meng Weiyu’s consent, Ye Hongxu immediately had people clear away the breakfast.
“Then.” Ye Hongxu did not leave and continued standing behind Meng Weiyu.
“What?” Meng Weiyu was still smiling cheerfully at this moment.
“President Shen said you need work.” Ye Hongxu brought over a large stack of materials. “I’ve already prepared it.”
Meng Weiyu: “…”
They were actually serious?
Time passed minute by minute, second by second. After working for more than two hours, Shen Zhoudu’s watch made a faint “click.” Shen Zhoudu adjusted his watch, put down the pen in his hand, picked up the cold coffee, and took a sip.
“Hongxu, the coffee is cold.” Shen Zhoudu reminded his assistant, who originally had a working position in the corner of the room.
As soon as his words fell, anxious footsteps approached Shen Zhoudu. Then a coffee cup was forcefully placed on the table.
Shen Zhoudu frowned, then raised his eyes.
Meng Weiyu stood in front of him with both hands on his hips.
“You really are a secretary.” Shen Zhoudu’s eyes smiled. Ignoring Meng Weiyu’s anger, he picked up the coffee and took a sip. “Cough.”
It was still hot.
“That assistant of yours is too inhuman.” Meng Weiyu loudly complained.
“Mm?” Shen Zhoudu blew on the cup and carefully took a sip.
“He actually took out a huge stack of things and made me organize and fill them out.” Moreover, Ye Hongxu was terrifying. The work he brought happened to be exactly the kind Meng Weiyu could handle, leaving him unable to use amnesia as an excuse to reject the work. Also, although Meng Weiyu looked carefree and unserious, in reality, he never did things perfunctorily. While Shen Zhoudu had his head buried in work, Meng Weiyu had not had even a single minute of free time. “As a secretary who has nothing but beauty, shouldn’t I only need to pour coffee, say a few stupid and cute lines to the CEO, then sell a little charm and get off work?”
“You want to sell your charm?” Shen Zhoudu laughed, then pushed his chair back slightly, leaving a bit of space. He patted his thigh and said to him, “Then sit here.”
He would satisfy all his ideas.
“Your demand is excessive. It has already reached the point where I have to sell my body.” Meng Weiyu was mighty and unyielding.
Shen Zhoudu could only silently push his chair back in again.
“Tsk.” Meng Weiyu looked like he was about to collapse. He had long wanted to curse, but while he was filling out the materials, he had raised his head several times, and Shen Zhoudu had been busy every time, not looking at him even once.
“There’s a pantry on the fifteenth floor. You can go down and find something to eat and slack off.” Shen Zhoudu propped his cheek with the back of his hand and casually reminded him.
“Can I?” Meng Weiyu’s eyes instantly lit up.
Shen Zhoudu nodded.
After getting Shen Zhoudu’s permission, Meng Weiyu ran off.
Shen Zhoudu helplessly shook his head.
When Meng Weiyu went out, he was sneaky, afraid that Ye Hongxu would catch him and chase him back to work.
He seized the timing perfectly, but not long after, Ye Hongxu returned to the office carrying work documents. He had originally wanted to hand the work to Meng Weiyu, but the moment he entered the room, he discovered the person was gone.
“Why did you give him so many documents to do?” Shen Zhoudu pushed his chair back slightly and looked helplessly at his assistant. He had already reminded Ye Hongxu. Ye Hongxu should have known that Meng Weiyu’s current cognition was only at the level of seventeen years old, not the company boss from before who could take over work and finish everything in one go.
“What I originally prepared was half a day’s worth.” Ye Hongxu picked up the documents Meng Weiyu had completed and placed to the side. “But Mr. Meng works too quickly.”
So he could only throw over another half-day’s worth.
“At this point.” Ye Hongxu could only continue letting him work. “Where is Mr. Meng?”
“He ran away,” Shen Zhoudu said concisely.
Meng Weiyu had not only run away. When he appeared in the fifteenth-floor pantry, he successfully attracted the crowd’s attention. In the end, the entire floor completely fell.
“I previously submitted my resume to Mr. Meng’s company too, but I wasn’t accepted.”
“Mr. Meng, you haven’t come here in such a long time.”
“Are you here to go on another date with President Shen today?”
Meng Weiyu held a bottle of drink and smiled at them. “I’m not going on a date with President Shen today. Whoever wants me can take me home.”
“Wow!” The crowd instantly exploded.
Inside Shen Zhoudu’s office, Ye Hongxu suddenly received a call. The moment he answered, the conflicted and pained voice of the small department supervisor came from the other side:
“Send someone over… and take Mr. Meng away…”
